April 21, 2012, Evelyn peacefully slipped away to her eternal reward at the age of 77. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1934. In Jamaica she graduated school, started her banking career. She moved to Victoria where she met and married Ernie and raised their family. Her Christian influence extended passed family, around the workplace, the community, and the world. Few can compare to her generosity and hospitality. Her home opened to all – her table filled with friends, roast beef and fancy desserts. Lovingly remembered by her husband, Ernest; four children, Carolyn, Beverley, Bradley (Theresa), Stuart (Donna); grandchildren, Kyla (Randy), Jordan (Kim), Jason, Willie, Stephanie, Andrew, Matthew, Chaylene (Jason), Joshua (Arielle), Emily, Lauren; great-grandchildren, Jax, Calais and Kacela; brother John (Elizabeth) Nelson and sister Louise (Stanley) Ansell and their families.
Memorial service to be held at Victoria Citadel, 4030 Douglas St. Victoria BC V8X 5J6, Thursday April 26th at 2:00 p.m. In place of flowers, gifts can be made to the Salvation Army Victoria Citadel, or Kidney or Diabetes foundation. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Yolande du Gardein-Matson Dear Carolyn,
I noticed the obituary for your Mom in this morning’s Times-Colonist newspaper. I am very sorry for your loss. Please tell your sister that the piece that she had written for the newspaper in February for the Valentine’s Day feature “Love outside the Box” was a touching account of your parents’ caring relationship.
I remember your Mom as a very cheerful, kind person from our university days when we would share a cup of tea at your family home.
Please know that you are in my thoughts during this difficult time.
Sincerely, Yolande

George and Gwen Skelton Ernie and family. Words can be difficult to come by that would adequately express a friendship of over 40 years. Like many newcomers to Victoria we experienced the hospitality of the Bent household. with Evelyn being the ever acommodating matriarch. These years have proven Evelyn to be the living example of the “broken water jug”, leaving a pathway of extraordinary beauty for others to admire.
