October 9, 1917 – January 29, 2012

It’s with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother Florence in Victoria, B.C. She passed away peacefully and quite quickly at age 94. Florence was predeceased by Kirk Falconer, her husband of 44 years; Earl Hawkins, her partner of 12 years; her sister Alma (Jim) Cartlidge; and her daughter Deborah Jane Falconer. She is survived by her two daughters Karen (Joe Acquafredda) Falconer and Kim (Chris) Nixon; son Tom (Linda) Falconer; granddaughters Erin Falconer, Kelly Falconer, Sheena Nixon and Jade Nixon; grandson Bryce Nixon; and by her many adored neighbours and friends. Mom was a fun-loving fascinating woman and enjoyed everyone’s friendship to the fullest. We will always cherish the memories of our mother, grandmother and friend. Mom will be missed by us all. Our special thanks go to the Ladies of Sidney Senior Care and in particular to Mercy Sagolili for their kind comfort and care. At mom’s request there will be no funeral service, but the family will hold a celebration of her life at a date to be announced later this winter. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation might consider the Canadian Diabetes Association. Condolences to the family may be offered below.

    Tom, Karen and Kim,
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you on the loss of your mother. In a lifetime of 94 years we only knew Florence a relatively “short” time, but she and our father, Earl, shared many wonderful experiences, including indoctrinating Florence in the joys of making maple syrup. She already had a deep love of cottaging and told us many tales of her family place in Manitoba while relaxing on the shores of the Big Rideau. Florence will be sorely missed by all of her family. May she find her bridge-playing friends for a few friendly hands and join her younger sister for another great session in the kitchen.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,
Rod and Penny Irwin and family

Dear Tom, Karen, Kim and families: I was very sorry to learn of Florence’s passing yesterday. She was a very positive and supportive companion for our Dad (Earl) in his later years. I have fond memories of times shared in the East, at the cottage in Portland ( along with Alma and Karen & Joe). On our visits out West, Florence always welcomed us with her genuinely warm hospitality. I am sure that she will be missed by many in her community.
    Sincerely,
    Cynthia Grace
