On August 16, 2010 following a long illness Frances Fielding passed away peacefully at St. Charles Manor in Victoria B C. Born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland to James and Dorothy Garland in 1921, Frances was educated in her home town and in St John’s where she worked in the War Effort for theYW and YMCA. In 1943 Frances married Chief Petty Officer Geoffrey Fielding (RCN) of Victoria at St Mary’s Church in St. John’s and later started ‘the most wonderful journey of her life’ travelling from St John’s to Victoria by train, stopping in cities along the way. Thus began a love and a life of travel as the wife of a Naval Officer with many postings. Frances
was always active in her church life, particularly with the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Victoria and the Anglican Church Women of Canada. Her religious faith remained strong throughout her life and supported her in times of adversity. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Geoff in January 1998 and her daughter, Meredith (Meeda) in 1996 and is
survived by her children, Joy (Eric Kjekstad), Jim (Kathryn) and Dorothy (Sean Steele) and by her grandchildren, Erica Kjekstad (Kevin Cuddihy), Leigh Kjekstad and Jillian (Ben Reid), Michael Fielding and Graham Fielding, Sergei Steele and Elena Steele and great-grandchildren, Eva Cuddihy and William Cuddihy. In Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, she will be missed by her brothers, Charles Garland (May) and Neville Garland (Alice) as well as many nieces and nephews. Our family is especially grateful to nurses Lara and Leia at St. Charles Manor and all the wonderful staff members whose care, compassion, respect and efficiency is shared with
residents and family alike. We also thank Brenda Diemert for her years of help and kindness to our Mother. Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Elgin Road, Oak Bay at 10:30 on Monday, August 23, 2010 with burial following at Royal Oak Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

    Joy,Jim. Dodie and families:

Although we were aware that your mom was unwell for quite sometime we were both saddened to hear of her passing. Neville and I were always delighted when your dad and mom visited us as they put life in Gran Garland’s house. We will always remember Fran for her quick and determined step, her laughter and her lovely voice. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time………Uncle Neville & Alice
