It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Bob. He was born and raised in Vancouver where his accomplished soccer career began, playing with North Shore United, Grandview Legion and Pilsner FC.  After moving to Victoria, he was still very much involved with the game and coached his sons with Gordon Head Soccer Association and Vantreights FC.  His love for the game continued into his 80’s, still kicking the ball around in a gym with the Gorge Old Timers.

He co-founded Hendry, Swinton Insurance with Don Hendry, together they grew it into the successful business it is today. Once retired, he continued to enjoy many annual trips to Sequim for some golf and gambling with his buddies. Maui and Las Vegas were two popular destinations for him and Anna.  He could often be seen at the park, watching his grandchildren play their games.

Dad leaves behind wife Anna, his children Brad (Lynn), Rob (Ida), Dave (Pam), Lee-Ann, Mike (Rachel), eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild and many dear friends.

A celebration of life will be held in the Sequoia Centre, at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Dr., Victoria, BC, on April 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  • Brad Hendry

Dear Anna, Brad, Rob, David & Leeanne, Sorry to hear about our loss. Bob had a great mind in finding solutions and over coming roadblocks in business. It was a pleasure to be mentored by him. He and my father were interesting partners, they went to lunch together everyday for 14 years and socialized in the same circles. Quite the pair.
Our condolences to you and your families.

I was among a very close circuit of friends Bob would could us for many years.

He initiated my interest before I played starting a 8 years old.

Bob had a unique ability to bring out the best in us always. Coached Gordon Head to many championships.

His return to coach Vantreight Men League he still got the best out of me in fact more. You will be missed Bob. A portion of who I would become was his influence to be the best. We were! Thank you for all you committed your time to for this sport.
