SMITH, Frederick William – It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Fred; a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was born December 13, 1925 in Camrose, Alberta. After a courageous battle with Emphysema, Fred passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on February 23, 2004 surrounded by his family.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 53 years, Patricia; daughter, Gaylan and son-in-law, Terry, granddaughter, Olivia; daughter, Jo-anne and grandsons, Christopher and Tristan; brother, James and wife, Evelyn; and his many relatives and friends.

In 1946 in Victoria, he met his lifelong companion, Pat. Later he became a glassblower for Bayliss Neon where he began to learn the Neon Sign Business.

In 1958 he moved with his family to Vancouver where he joined Neon Products. He enjoyed a successful career in sales.

Throughout the years he became a respected leader in the North American Sign Industry. Fred retired in 1988 as the Executive Vice President and Manager of the Jim Pattison Sign Company.

Fred will be especially remembered for his hard work ethic, strong opinions, sense of humour and his ability to give those he loved the feeling that he would always protect and take care of them.

Special thanks to Dr. D. Yam and Dr. E. Gough and the kind hospital staff.
