It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gayleen on September 4th, 2025, at the Royal Jubilee Hospice at the age of 84. Gayleen is survived by her granddaughter Catherine (John), and great grandchildren Maxwell and Lyla. Sister Marilyn, brother-in-law Brian, nephew Bradley (JF), nieces Lynette (Anthony), Karlene, and great niece Marti. Sister-in-law Barbara, niece Colleen (Stu), and their children. She was predeceased by her sons Randy and Kenny, husband Roy, sister Margaret, brother Ken, and nephew Stephen.
Gayleen was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Frank and Sophie Barnard. Growing up on the family farm, she was the second youngest of 4 siblings. She moved to various places including Regina, Medicine Hat, and Calgary, before landing in Victoria in 1968 with former husband Neil and their two sons.
Gayleen worked at various grocery stores including Safeway and Thrifty’s. She loved golf and her little dogs Misty, Tuffy, and Missy. She also loved attending family dinners/events, food, traveling, watching her great grandson’s sporting events, and chatting with her sister regularly.
She will be remembered dearly by her family/friends and for having a great sense of humor. She was cracking jokes up until the very end.
A big thank you to all the nurses and doctors at the hospital and hospice. There will be no funeral service per request, please pay your respects and honour her memory however you would like.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
