George E. Miller
July 12, 1913 – August 7, 2009
George was born in Garland Manitoba and passed away at Beacon Hill Villa in Victoria. He was predeceased by his loving wife, of 63 years, Mary Frances (nee Turgeon) in 1999.
He was also predeceased by his brothers, Edward, John, Ray, Joseph and Len. He is survived by his daughter Madeline, son-in-law James Sherrin and two sisters, Nellie and Pat along with sister-in-law Mary all from Winnipeg. George is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
George served in the Canadian Army for 25 years, with the Queens Own Rifles and Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, he served a tour of duty in England where he started the
first combined school of training for the Canadian and British armies. He retired as the senior Regimental Sergeant Major in Canada.
As he was still a young man, he took on another career with the Bank of Montreal, in the Main Branch in Burnaby, B.C. where he was for 17 years.
Upon his final retirement, he and Mary travelled and were passionate gardeners. They made their final move to Victoria in 1998, their last of 33 moves during their marriage.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday August 14, 2009, 12:00 noon at St. Andrews Cathedral, 740 View St. (corner of Blanshard & View). Interment will follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Hill Villa, especially on the 4″‘ floor, for their care of George during his short stay there.
