George H. Stencel passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Pre-deceased by his brother Alex, George is survived by his beloved wife, Sally (Christie); daughters, Beatrice Spiteri (George); Jacqueline Dillon (Brian) and grandchildren, Rebecca and Alex. George arrived in Canada as a landed immigrant from Poland in 1954 and became a Citizen in 1957. He was grateful to Canada for its human freedoms and was a strong advocate for individual responsibility and contributions to society.

George was employed for over thirty years as an administrator in the health care sector, mainly in Ottawa. He was very active in sports and recreation throughout his life, competing and coaching in tennis, figure-skating and soccer. A devoted family man, he leaves a legacy of love.

George was very grateful for the professional support of Dr. John Antonsen, Dr. Douglas Hartford, and the Technical and Support staff at the Victoria Community Dialysis Facility. The family would also like to thank the staff at The Victoria Hospice.

Private family service by request.

    Dear Jackie, Dear Brian,

Very sorry to discover this bad news… weddings and funerals are
supposed to bring folks together… well this was the (sad) result
of an internet search! I’ve often thought about you guys, especially
since we have spent lots of time in the Vancouver/Victoria area
in the last years. Perhaps we could meet up. You’ll remember
Catherine (now my wife) and you can meet our two guys, Ben (12)
and Noah (9). Hopefully you’ll get this message. You can reach
    me at: lunney@csnsm.in2p3.fr

On top of my condolences, please receive my best wishes
for the 2012 new year (and all the new years since 1995 or so!)

    Best regards, David

p.s. Say hi to Bea, and to Del (I’ll never forget my single,
    life-changing curling experience!)

  • Del Daignault and Family

Dear Jackie, Bea, Sally and the rest of the family

I have just learned of George’s passing. Though I am very sorry to hear this news, I was glad to read that his passing was peaceful, and surrounded by his ever-loving family.

I will remember him playing tennis at the cottage — two of us at once — and beating us handily!

    Much love
    Del
