March 23, 1938 – January 10, 2010
Glen passed away peacefully with his family at his side at St. Charles Manor in Victoria, BC. Born in Moncton N.B. and predeceased by his parents, Reverend A.I. and Leona Higgins. He leaves his loving wife of 45 years, Sharron (nee Holdridge); daughter, Laurena (Drew) Olsen; son, Gordon (Phillippa Brown); grandchildren, Sean, Simon, Shannon and Rachel; brother, Ralph (Sue); niece, Liz (Rob) Verwoord; nephews, David (Catherina), Chris (Christine); Connie Higgins; cousin Yvonne (Erwin) Rose; sister in law, Carol Ellis and her children Toby, Philippa (Tony) and David Ellis.
Glen attended schools in Halifax, Ottawa and graduated from Vic High in 1956. He attended The Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology from 1959-1962. His career spanned 37 years with B.C. Ministry of Highways. Unique equipment projects he developed were a one-off gas powered snow plough and the Deas Island Tunnel washer. Glen’s many talents as a mechanic and creative craftsman were well known.
His maritime heritage impassioned him to build and skipper many yachts in local and international races with Royal Victoria Yacht Club friends. He served as Rear Commodore at RVYC, Commodore of Turkey Head Sailing Association, and Measurer for the International Thunderbird Association Executive. In later years, he and Sharron left the racing circuit to cruise the coast aboard their MV’s “Sunny Daze” and “Silent Motion”. Glen will always be remembered by his family for his love and steadfast support of their activities and achievements. Special thanks to Dr. Alan Cook, Family Practitioner for many years.
Memorial Service to be held at First Metropolitan Church, 932 Balmoral Ave, on Wednesday January 20, at 2pm. Reception to follow at Royal Victoria Yacht Club, 3475 Ripon Rd. Donations in Glen’s memory can be sent to the Higgins Family Fund c/o The Huntington Society of Canada at www.huntingtonsociety.ca.

    Dear Sharron,
I was out of town and very sorry to learn, upon my return, that Glen had passed on. I was sorry I was not here to attend the service.
I first met Glen at Youth group at First United Church. Although he was several years younger than me, we always got along well and I enjoyed his friendship. Over the years we lost contact, but whenever we met we enjoyed catching up. It was Glen’s father who married us.
Glen was a great person and will be missed.
Joyce joins me in sending to you and your family our sincere sympathy. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
    Sincerely,
    Bill
