Gordie and my late husband Mason Sheldrick were great friends. They both loved lacrosse and basketball. The Bamfords lived behind the Sheldrick residence, on Stannard Ave. I remember Mason talking of when they would go up to Sir James Douglas School and shoot baskets. I believe Gord went on to play basketball in a league. Mase went on to play lacrosse and serve on the board of Directors of the Shamrocks.
I was sorry to read of his death in the Times Colonist and send my condolences. If I had known he was in Glengarry I would have visited him as I still live in the house on Arnold Ave. which is quite near Glengarry. The last time I saw Gordon I was working in my front flower beds and he walked by and stopped to chat.. That wsa e few years ago of course and although we said we would keep in touch, we never did. And then the next thing you know they are gone and so is the opportunity. I’m sorry for your loss.
    Sincerely, Lyn Sheldrick.

I was fortunate enough to be one of the people Gordie opened his home to. I spent many days of my childhood and adolescence in his backyard and playing with my cousins in his basement. Gordie had to be one of the most patient people I had grown up with as I’m sure it wasn’t the easiest thing constantly having little kids invading your space each weekend. But he always welcomed us, and I will never forget it. To Dorothy (Grandma), you deserve a huge thank you. Gordie was very lucky to have you around to help out when it was most needed, and you were there until the end. Although I am sure it is hard at this point in time, I hope you can take some solace in knowing that you were a huge part of his life, and gave him more than he could have ever asked for. The Driedger’s will miss you Gordie, but we will all have a Black Label for you, and I’ll keep trying to get that elusive 300 game that I’ve been working on for almost 25 years now 🙂 Until then Gordie….

  • BELL

I’m writing this on behalf of Mary Bell & Bill Bell (my parents), who have been long-time friends of The Bamfords. They have such wonderful memories of Boxing Day parties and the boys getting together for cards & stories. Liz was just a little girl at the time, the spitting image of Marj, a true lady who kept family & friends near to her heart. We’re sorry to hear of Gordies passing, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. We’ll always remember him with a smile on his face and a quick joke to tell. Susan Dunn
