February 7, 1931- November 5, 2012
Passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. She is survived by Bill, her husband of 57 years; her son, Liam and his partner, Andey; her sister, Elsie Cadenhead and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Dave Bell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evie was born in Vancouver and attended Lord Byng High School where she excelled in field hockey and softball and met her future husband, Bill. Evie attended Normal School in Victoria at Victoria High School and went on to be a well loved PE and Social Studies teacher in both Vancouver and Richmond. In 1980, she was excited to move to Victoria where she enjoyed being the wind beneath her husband’s wings as Police Chief and staying home to raise their son, Liam. She was an avid volunteer with The Salvation Army, Rotary Ann’s and Santa’s Anonymous. Evie often said, ” I have had a life more amazing than I ever could have imagined!” Including 52 years of summer fun and antics at her beloved Yellow Point Lodge with the cross boarder Second Week of July Crew. Deeply memorable cruising on “The Bounty” in the Gulf and San Juan Islands and in Desolation Sound with many a flotilla of friends. Her deep love of travel and adventure took her and Bill to many corners of the globe in their retirement years. Evie will be remembered for her unfailing optimism and flair for hostessing and decorating, love and commitment to family and fantastic sense of humour. She will be remembered as the classy women she was.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL, 4665 Falaise Drive in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Boys and Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Their’s was an exceptional love story, a testament to their love and committment and an inspiration to those who knew them.

Hi Bill,
I remember sitting with you and Evie a long time ago at a Police function and you were both so much fun! I think I was kind of nervous and Evie was so sweet and made me feel right at ease. I wished I had seen her more but in one visit I knew she was a wonderful lady. Ed and I send our sympathies to you and your family.
Ed was News Director at CFAX for many years and I was the Deputy Coroner for a few years and then at VCP working with volunteers in community policing.
with fond regards,
Cathy and Ed McKenzie
