September 12, 1920 – April 18, 2012

Aunt Grace died peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in the early afternoon on April 18, 2012.

Grace lived up to her name all of her 91 years. She was a loving, quiet woman who enjoyed a good story, a good laugh and a good cup of coffee in a pretty cup. She showed us how to live and die with great dignity.

Born in Victoria, she was the youngest of three girls. Her sister Gladys who predeceased Grace in 2009, was her best friend. They lived together for over 50 years and took great joy in their home. Their entertaining put the special in special occasions. These included birthday parties and luncheons with friends that Grace has had since she was 5 years old at Lampson Street School. Grace had a remarkable memory that kept our family history alive. Even when the rest of her body was failing her, Grace could still remind us of names and dates and events from decades ago or just last week. A visit with Aunt Grace always put a smile on our face and joy in our hearts.

With the help of her family, neighbours, nurse practitioner, Ruth Larson, and friend, housekeeper and hairdresser, Sandy Elly, Grace was able to stay in the home she loved so much until a year ago. In April 2011, Grace moved to The Priory where she was given the loving care she needed. We have been so blessed by everyone who touched Grace’s life right up to her last hours at VGH.

Aunt Grace is survived by her oldest sister, Daisy Goley, who just celebrated her 97th birthday; her nieces, Shirley Townsend, Beverly Lowe, Marlene Goley; their husbands and families; her school girl chums, Pat and Mary; long time friend, Addy and sister-in-law, Maddy.

A private celebration of Aunt Grace’s life will be held on April 28th.
