Gurdev Kaur Takhar (nee Sihota)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gurdev Kaur Takhar (nee Sihota). She was born on February 15, 1922 in Dholeta, Punjab, India. Gurdev was married in 1941 and immigrated to Canada in 1950. She was loved by all of her family and friends and will always be missed. Gurdev was predeceased by her husband, Bakhshish Singh Takhar (1993) and brother-in-law, Shiv (Sibo) Singh Takhar. Gurdev will be missed by her son, Mahinder (Moti) Singh Takhar; daughter-in-law, Kulbir Kaur Takhar (nee Tung) and her granddaughter, Aneeta Takhar (Maninder Mahal). Her sisters, Gej Kaur Johal, Tej Kaur Mann and their families will remember her with great fondness. She will also be greatly missed by her brother-in-law, Pritam SinghTakhar and family. Family and friends knew Gurdev as Bibi, who was respected as the head of the family and looked upon for guidance in important family decisions. She was an accomplished story-teller and could keep us entertained for hours with her many tales and reflections of times past. In her later years, she developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of Punjabi films and actors and shared her enthusiasm for the topic with any and all who came to visit. Furthermore, Bibi was a role model of endearing strength and exemplified that illness was not an impediment to living life well. Bibi, we will miss you dearly and remember you and your indomitable spirit with love. Funeral services will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 30, 2012 followed by a short service at the Sikh Temple 1210 Topaz in Victoria.
