October 7, 1918 – December 16th, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved mother and grandmother on December 16th, 2009, after a lengthy illness. Daisy was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. She moved to Saskatoon at a young age and later moved west to Vancouver where she started working for Woodwards at age 13. During WWII Daisy worked in Newfoundland purchasing supplies for the Armed Forces. After the war she moved back west, this time to Victoria. Daisy married Bill McCubbin and together they raised 2 children, Bob and Margaret. The family enjoyed travel, time at their summer camp and especially their big fat cat, Tom. Daisy returned to work full time in 1973, ending her working days as a secretary to Caucus members for the Provincial Government. Retirement days were filled with lawn bowling, bridge, travelling, grandchildren and her many friends. In recent years she especially enjoyed long cribbage games, activities at New Horizons and dinners at James Bay Community School. Daisy will be greatly missed by her son Bob (Cathy); daughter Margaret (Rick) and her 4 granddaughters, Breanna, Lauren, Rebecca and Shae. Her devoted longtime companion, Douglas Raine, will miss Daisy’s smiling face and sense of humour . Daisy was a true lady, with a deep love for her family, chocolate and Dutch Bakery treats. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Carroll and all the staff at the Waterview Unit of the Gorge Hospital for their kind and compassionate care during her lengthy stay in hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daisy’s memory to The Salvation Army.
No service by request. A memorial tea will be held at a later date.
