Our sweet mom passed away on February 28, 2021 in Victoria BC at 98 years of age.  She was born in Neidau Germany and came to Canada in 1949.  She met and married Frank (deceased 1985) in Winnipeg, later settling in Victoria in 1960. She had 4 children, Margot, Elizabeth (deceased 1993), Herb and Edith, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  Her many grandchildren were her greatest joy.

She had many friends for whom she cared deeply. After retirement Mom spent many years volunteering for the Victoria Hospice Society and the Baptist Church, receiving recognition awards for her years of dedication and commitment.  She was also very active in her walking groups. She loved to knit baby blankets and scarfs for all the new babies in the family as well as many items for the homeless.

Mom was always the first to help anyone who needed it, her family and friends, and touched so many lives with her kindness.

We love you mom and thank you for being the mom you were to all of us.  You will be deeply missed.

We would like to thank the staff and residents of the Cridge Senior Village for their care, kindness and love.

“When you look into your Mothers eyes, you know that this is the purest love you can find on this earth”

There will be no memorial service at this time.

We met Ilse several times over the years at the Cridge. She and our mother, Diana, shared meals together, great conversations and visits. Mom’s mobility wasn’t good so Ilse would check if she needed items picked up, or she would check her mail and deliver it. She was a sweet lady and we all miss her. The Planiden family

Sorry for your loss. Ilse was such a dear friend to my Mom Ruby and loved by our family. She certainly lived a long full life and can now rest in peace. Mom (Ruby) predeceased her by 11 years and also in February…on the 24th. I hold such dear memories of them both and know what good friends they were.
    Take comfort in her memories.
    Warm regards
    Lorraine

Dear Herb, Margot, and Edith. I was saddened to see your Mom’s obituary in the paper this morning. It took me back to the years on Harbinger street and her usually creating nice smelling food coming out of the kitchen. She was a nice but tough lady who had to put up with the lot of us! Tough indeed! I was glad that I went to visit her with Herb the last time he was here. I think she was 97 then and was doing remarkably well ! We shared some good memories of the years on Harbinger street. She was the last of our parents generation left. She will be missed.

    Dear Margot and Andy,
What a lovely tribute to your mom. She sounded so similar to my mom, who just died Oct. 17th at 101 years. Both came through tough times, both loved their grandchildren and both both happily volunteered to make life for others easier. Happy memories.
