With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Irene Maningas Real on June 12, 2026, feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was 85.
Irene was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and prayer companion to many people who knew her here in Canada and the Philippines.
She was born on April 10, 1941, to Felicisimo and Maximina Maningas. She is the 5th among their 11 children and was one of the main breadwinners to her younger siblings so they can all finish their schooling. She lived a hard life as she has made many sacrifices for the sake of her loved ones.
She was known for being strong in her faith and unwavering trust in our Lord’s unfathomable love.
While in the Philippines, she was an active member of the Charismatic Movement in her parish and also a lead facilitator with the Marriage Encounter parish team supporting young couple’s marriage journey. She has the gift of healing and wisdom and was able to share her gifts with many people.
She was widowed when her eldest was only nine years old, yet she was able to support her three children and was able to send them to finest schools and completed their degrees. This has always given her a lot of gratitude and pride as she spoke about this even when her memory has declined.
Her strong faith and trust in God’s Divine Providence got her through all her life challenges as a single mother, with the support of her sisters.
She came to Canada in 2001 and has helped raise her grandchildren as her daughters started their own families. She also became a member of the Handmaids of the Lord and has frequently attended Couples for Christ events and would share her witnessing of God’s love in her life, how her faith and trust in Him has helped her a lot in her life and her family. She is a long-time parishioner, and her family serves at different capacities, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish.
The last few years of her life were special as she was well taken care of by the wonderful staff at The Summit at Quadra Village, Hummingbird House. They have all made her feel comfortable and at home in her stay there of almost two years.
She has left behind her three loving daughters, Gloria (Mel), Ruth (Oliver), Olivia (Ferd) and her seven grandchildren- Hannah, Ariana, John, April, Katherine, Claire and Aaron, and all her extended families and friends in Canada and all over the world who are also grieving her passing.
A Funeral Service will be at in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Thursday, June 18th at 3-5pm followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 753 Burnside Road, Victoria, BC at 7-8pm.
