Our beloved mother and wife, Isabell passed away peacefully on July 15, 2009 at Beckley Farm Lodge after a long, full, and happy life. She leaves behind her loving ing husband, Ted of sixty-five years; son, Barry (Mignonne); daughter, Nancy (Brent); five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one great-grand-dog. Isabell was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Oct 22, 1917. While at high school, she was a talented athlete, focusing on running. After graduation, she worked at Eaton’s as an upholsterer and drapery seamstress. Ted and Isabell were married August 11, 1943 after Ted had graduated from Emanuel Ministerial College. Their first posting was to Paynton, Saskatchewan where they started their lives together in service to the Lord. Family and parish life were always a focus for Isabell, as she worked behind the scenes hosting and supporting family and friends. Isabell had numerous hobbies including handicrafts, sewing, piano, baking for family and church and community service. She was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, going on to become Worthy Matron of Ruth Chapter 22 in 1975. In later years, you could find Isabell sitting in front of the fire, with her wonderful dog, Max, doing her word find puzzles and knitting slippers. There were never any cold feet at the Greenhalghs! Her faith in the Lord carried her through all the tough times in her life. Isabell is at peace in the arms of Our Lord where the pains of this life will be no more.

What memories came flowing back when Peter and I read of Isabel’s death today. When I arrived on the Island I heard of Ted and Isabell’s involvement with the family while they were at St. Peter’s – several of our young people having been baptized by him.
In due course, I met them and Isabel was always so interested in me and our situation.
We have special memories of being with Nancy and her family while they were at St. Peter’s in the 70’s.
And, then how wonderful it was to have Mignon guide us through the first steps of Peter’s diagnosis of Lewy Bodys. Of course Barry and Peter worked together, too.
And so, we wish to express our deepest sympathy to each of you but at the same time rejoice, that it is “well done thou good and faithful servant” and we all know we will be re-united one day.
As an aside one of my favourite stenographers when I was working was an Eleanor Pinchin and we kept in touch for many years – I wonder if she was a relative.

    Archdeacon Ted and Family:
My heart felt condolances to you Ted and your Family. I will always remember Isabel sitting in my styling chair having her hair done and her magnificent calming way bringing me back to earth during a hectic day. Her presence was something to behold. Time has passed but the fond memories are present.

    Dear Nancy and Family,

As you know my dad passed away exactly a week before your mom. The pain and sorrow are so well described by a little niece of mine, “There is a hole in my heart.” As I feel my loss, I join my heart with yours as you walk only a few steps behind me.

    I love you,

    Genise

Isabell was a true friend and sister star member. Always ready to help and advise when in time of need. She gave Olga full support through the offices of the Eastern Star, it was her encouragement and kindness throughout the years that provided a true bond to our friendship.
She will always be with us and remembered as “special” in our hearts.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Ted and family and we hope you will find comfort in the beautiful memories of dear Isabell.

  • Jan & Maeghi

All our wishes to you and your family.

I walked into my plant room yesterday evening and what greeted me was Isabell – the piece of your mom’s fern that Nancy gave me oh, so many years ago. She smiled at me and I at here and we said good night for now but not forever.

    Love Jan and Maeghi!!
