April 7, 1922 – April 15, 2013

Ivan passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his parents, Mate and Jela Arbanas, sister, Ana Klemencic; brothers, Joso and Mile; four children who died as infants in Croatia and granddaugher, Sandra Kruljac in Croatia. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ana, of 63 years; his son, Ivica of Victoria; his daughters, Jela Kruljac (Luka) in Croatia, Kata Novosel (Zeljko) of Chemainus; granddaughter, Sanja Cakanic (Silvije) in Croatia and three great-grandsons, Jakov, Jan and Luka of Croatia. He will be greatly missed by many friends, cousins and Kumovi in Canada and Croatia. Ivan was born in Kaluderovac, Lika, Croatia and emmigrated to Chemainus in 1969, followed by his family a year later. After working on the Kerber family farm in Westholme, he moved his family to Victoria in 1985. Ivan did masonry work in Victoria with Ivica until his retirement. Ivan was a quiet person who loved going to church and spending time with his family and friends. He had a special bond with children, many of whom called him Dida. A special thank you to Dr. Broere and staff of Cowichan District Hospital.

Prayers will be offered at St. Leopold B Mandic Croatian Catholic Church, 4081 Gordon Head Road in Saanich at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, at St. Leopold B Mandic Croatian Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
