JOAN HOSTY

Joan passed away after a brave struggle with cancer on July 11, 2007. She leaves behind her to celebrate her life her loving sister Pauline and brother-in-law Rudi, Carol; her nieces and nephews, Russel, Dawne, Phil, Heidi and their families, including Jordan, Amara, Matt, Zach, Gabi and Niki. Born in London, England, Joan moved with her family to Canada in 1954. Although she worked in various areas of social work for the Salvation Army, Joan’s first love was always teaching. She taught for many years in Zimbabwe and most recently, in the ESL Dept. at Camosun College. Joan was a dedicated teacher, and she will be sadly missed by colleagues and students alike.

Special thanks to Dr. Wolovitz, the wonderful staff at the Cancer Centre and RP1, Jubilee Hospital for their care and compassion.

Her years in Zimbabwe left Joan with a deep concern for the needs of the people there, and she was constantly working to raise money for her favourite charity, the Athol Evans Hospital in Harare. For this reason, the family would like to request that in lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory be sent to the Athol Evans Hospital, Harare, Zimbabwe c/o the Salvation Army, 2 Overlea Blvd, Toronto, Ontario M4H 1P4

A service of thanksgiving for Joan’s life will be held at the Salvation Army Victoria Citadel, 4030 Douglas Street (off McKenzie) on Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m.
