Joan passed away on August 8, 2016 in Victoria, BC with her loving family by her side. She was born into a pioneering family of Victoria (Cordova Bay) on May 25, 1933. Predeceased by her sister, Deborah, Joan is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 65 years, Richard; their children, Douglas (Ann), David, Linda Carey (Doug); Grandchildren Michele, Louise (Steffen), Evan and Rachel; great-grandchild, Stacy; brothers, John (Eunice), Kenneth (Jennie); sister, Maureen Cobb (Doug) and many nieces and nephews. Joan attended Quadra, Cloverdale and Mt. View High School. She was an avid curler for over 50 yrs and won many trophies and ribbons for her efforts. Joan enjoyed traveling, sewing and knitting and was a talented baker. We always looked forward to having “Granny’s” cookies. Joan and Richard loved dancing and made many special friends along the way. Most of all, Joan was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Victoria Hospice and Dr. Govender for their compassion and support.

No funeral at Joan’s request. An informal gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice Foundation, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8.

Edith McHugh Joan was a lovely lady. I met her at Curling. She was my Skip several times. I enjoyed curling with her. She always had something positive to say even if I didn’t Curl very well! We had hoped she would be back to Curl with us this next season. So sad.
