It is with sadness we announce the passing of our Father John, on October 10th, 2025, after a brief battle with respiratory illness.
John was predeceased by his parents, Gloria and Jose from Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel Azores Portugal and the mother of his children, Gloria Jean.
He is survived by sons David (Sharon) and John (Dee), his granddaughter Halle, brother Joe (Guimar) and will be missed by many other family members and friends.
As a young man he was quite the goaltender on the pitch. Later, he joined the working force as a Crane Operator and long-time member of the IUOE where he assisted in the completion of many local construction projects. John enjoyed years of camping in East Sooke spending time on his boat fishing. He was known as a character who kept people laughing with his good humour and silly sayings.
To the staff at the Selkirk Seniors Village, thank you for your care and patience. He often said how great you all were to him. Also, to the VGH staff for making a hard situation much easier.
At Johns request there will be no official service. He would much rather you raise a glass in his memory.
John, we love you 10,000 sockeye!
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Kim Stewart (nee Provan) John, Dee, David & Sharon,
We are so sorry for your loss.
I cannot remember a time when John wasn’t part of our family. We spent many years in East Sooke laughing with him and Gloria, or at the house on Hallowe’en celebrating John Jr’s birthday.
10,000 Sockeye doesn’t see like enough for this funny man!
Love,
Kim, Dale and Taylor Stewart
