December 19, 1917 — September 15, 2010
After a long life well lived Byron Price died suddenly but peacefully. He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite (Mike) and brothers Wilfred and Robert. and survived by his sister-in-law Jackie and many nieces and nephews. We remember him as a strong man who spoke his mind without fear or favour. He was intensely loyal to his brothers and took an interest in their children’s lives.
A Victoria native, Byron worked his way from door-to-door salesman to large property developer. Well into his eighties he was still involved in business, not because he had to but because he enjoyed it so much. He followed politics, particularly as they relate to education policy, a subject he studied and wrote on.
With Mike, Byron traveled extensively. A high point was meeting a family in Africa that they had sponsored for many years. Byron and Mike played bridge at a senior level, and Byron was a great Jazz aficionado, both as a listener and as a trumpeter. His other passion was golf, although he always said Mike was the better player. He had a succession of Boston Bull Terriers, all of which gave him great joy.
The family wishes to thank Michelle, Cherry, Jill and Natalie, whose devoted care made it possible for Byron to live out his days in the house he built more than fifty years ago.
A memorial service will be held at McCalls, 1400 Vancouver Street, 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010. No reception by request. Flowers declined. Donations to the Camosun College Foundation in Byron’s name would be appreciated.

  • Mary Luu and Family

We are sincerely gracious to have known Mr. Byron Price. He was an extremely kind and loving person. His generosity extends further than words can describe as he sponsored our entire family over to Canada and helped us start a new life. As a demonstration of our appreciation, our first born son was named after him, Byron Luu, and the second born was named by Mr. Price after his own brother, Robert Luu.

Throughout the many years of knowing Mr. Price, he supported our family in many ways, one which he financially supported Byron and Robert’s education.

Our sincerest condolences to the family while he remains in our hearts forever.

We are better people for having known you. You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered, Uncle Byron.

“Let us weep in our darkness, but weep not for him!
Not for him who, departing, leaves millions in tears!
Not for him who has died full of honor and years!
Not for him who ascended Fame’s ladder so high:
From the round at the top he has stepped to the sky.”

We are saddened to hear of Uncle By’s passing. When we were able, we loved to visit him. He was always so gracious to us.

It was greatly appreciated by us, that those who were involved in his care did such a wonderful job. Each time we visited we were always tickled to see that he was very comfortable and happy.

Our deepest sympathy to you all and also to the rest of the family.

    Ron and Donna Murray
