Born in Kingston, Ontario on August 10, 1929 to Frances and Clarence Cook. Died in Victoria on April 1, 2013. John moved to Oak Bay in 1942 attending Monterey Elementary School and Oak Bay High. As a long time Oak Bay resident, he worked at Oak Bay Hardware from 1955 prior to owning Cordova Bay Hardware from 1967 – 1976. He is survived by his wife Nancy of 53 years; daughters Mary and Lorna Rizzi (Cam); grandson, Peter and sister, Betsy Harvey. John will always be remembered by his many friends and relatives for his sense of humour and loyal support. A generous man, he gave freely of his time and expertise to the Girl Guide Camps in Sooke for maintenance projects. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on the 4th floor, North and South of the Patient Care Centre for the fantastic care provided.

A memorial gathering will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, #602 – 620 View Street, Victoria, BC V8W 1J6 or Oak Bay Volunteer Services, 2167 Oak Bay Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 1G2 would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
