With deep sadness, we announce the passing of John on January 7, 2014 at age 78.  Born in Pembroke, Ontario, son of Jocelyn Likey and Charles Charlton, he leaves behind his loving partner June Panter; his sister Elizabeth Strachan and cousin Fraser Likely of Ottawa.

John was well known in the ballroom dance circles.  He danced for 20 years and loved helping others on the dance floor. He worked for 30 years as a private investigator for Equifax Services Ltd.  In later years, he enjoyed working as a landscaper in Victoria. John will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service and Reception will be held at Sequoia Gardens Memorial, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.

What sad news I learned today. John, we had so many great laughs as you patiently help me learn to dance. I will miss you as we all will. So happy you had the loving care of June and, June, it was so wonderful to see how happy you were together. He was so lit up after he met you. I wish you everything you need to get through this loss.
    Love, Marney.

I am very sad to hear that John has died. I know that he will be missed by so many people. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

I have known John for about 12 years. We first met when he started to cut my lawn and help with yard care in my home. He was a pleasure to have around my home. John helped to care for my garden and he was always so cheerful and friendly. I referred him to several friends because I so enjoyed the work that he did. Then, several years later, I took up ballroom dancing and was delighted to find that John was very active with the Victoria Ballroom Dance Society. I am fortunate to have danced with John at many Wednesday evening practice sessions. John was so kind to help me to learn how to dance.

In the past few years, as John has been struggling with failing health, I have been so very impressed with John’s cheerful nature in the face of health challenges and his determination to live life to the fullest that he could manage. John had a loving heart and a generous spirit.

I will miss him. In his memory, I will make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

    Yours truly,

    Jane Bradley
