He also enjoyed the game of golf, and served both as President of Uplands Golf Club as well as Director of the BC Golf Association. John was predeceased in 2003 by his wife of 57 years, Jean. He will always be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughters Valerie Demisch and Tracy Green; his grandchildren Robert and Carolyn Demisch; and his son-in-law Christopher Demisch. The family would like to thank the staff at Luther Court and Parkwood Court for the care and support provided to John. Interment entrusted to Royal Oak Burial Park.

In loving memory of a grand and loving man from the children and spouses of his only sister June Patricia Pierpoint. Alan & Barbara Ritchie, Patti Button, Karen Ritchie, Susan Duke, Laura & Perry Bothwell

A message came and stopped us cold
His day had come the truth be told
When our dear uncle passed away
To rest along the Milky Way

An tho we knew this day would come
The shock it brought has left us numb
For what he brought and what he shared
Left none to wondering if he cared

His life was one that stood the test
From boy to man he did his best
And none would wonder at his might
As seen in deeds that soon took flight

A student who excelled at all
He soon marched on to meet his call
So up into the skies he flew
To fall in love with colours blue

Through WW II he served us proud
And found a bride whose charm could wow
He brought her home to our dear shores
To share the Life of Air Force mores

Two daughters soon adorned their house
Their pride and joy there was no doubt
As year passed by they too were blessed
    With father’s love and interest

And though there were some other loves
Like Golf and friends and skies above
His warmth and passion to a cause
Gives rise to those who would applaud

And so in closing let me say
We’ll meet him soon along the way
That is of course you’ve lived life well
For his new home you know is swell

Valerie and Chris, I have been thinking of your father lately whenever I went to Victoria. I visited him there around 1983 while I had a bakery in Nanaimo. I always had very good memory of your father and I am sad that he has passed away. I would have liked to see him again after all those years. My thoughts and prayers are with you on such and occasion.

I served on the board of Uplands with John in the late 70s. I’ve played golf with him and I still recall the Browning irons he used for years.
I have visited him a few times at Parkwood Court and always had great respect for him.
He was instrumental in recruiting and training our greens superintendent, Brian Youell, one of his lasting achievements.
My regards to members of the family.

What a great photo of your Dad!! I could never be there on Remembrance Day because I cry my heart out on that day so I missed seeing him dressed but he was such a handsome guy. I was so sad to hear the news that John was gone. He was such a wonderful man and I loved every minute I spent with him. I was planning on taking our daughter who we adopted in March to see him in September as she is just becoming comfortable spending time with people other than us. Annie would have adored him because he looks so much like my Dad but I am sure it would have been mutual – his face always lit up when children were around!!!!! You guys are such a close knit family and I hope that you will get through this difficult time together. It was wonderful to have to chance to meet such a special family.
You are all in our thoughts.
