Joseph Gilmour August 9, 1913- September 24, 2007

“Absent from the body, present with the Lord”. Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Joe was taken home to be with his Lord, September 24, 2007. Joe was the first of seven children born to James and Elizabeth Gilmour in New Stevenson, Scotland August 9, 1913. The family immigrated to Canada in 1930 settling in Winnipeg. Joe’s childhood was brief as he became part of the work force at an early age, helping to support the growing Gilmour family. Life was strenuous but happy for Joe and his brothers and sisters. The focal point both then and throughout his life was his faith and his involvement with the Plymouth Brethern churches, in Winnipeg, Ebenezer Chapel. He met his life-long love, Mynne, and they were married in October 26, 1940. The war interrupted their life together as Joe was sent to England in the medical corp. While in England he met many friends who truly became lifelong friends. The twins were born after Joes’ return, and three years later the family moved to Victoria. Joe was involved in retail sales eventually establishing his own business Stylerite Shoes ( “happy feet make happy faces”). He was involved in starting the old Marigold Sunday School, and eventually Westview Chapel. Joe retired in 1981.
