Juliet Margaret Ritchie passed away on January 15th, 2025, at the age of 68, in her home surrounded by her husband, Rand, and three children, Ryan, James and Haylee.

Juliet was born on March 2nd, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia, to James Verdon Steele and Harriet Florence Chaloner. She grew up in Cadboro Bay, Victoria, BC, where, through her lifelong friend, Alison Lovett, she met her husband of 50 years, Rand. They married and moved to Calgary, Alberta, before settling in Edmonton and eventually retiring on Vancouver Island.

Juliet especially enjoyed her time working in fashion and jewelry at Woodward’s. She went on to build a career in real estate and property management and ran three successful businesses.

Juliet loved gardening, trying new recipes for entertaining, and caring for her friends and family. She had the ability to always find a way to make things work. She was patient, loving and understood that “life is people.”

Juliet will be deeply and forever missed by the many people who love her. There will be no public service, but donations can be made in her memory to a local animal rescue.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Rand, James, Haylee and Ryan,

No one can prepare you for the hurt and loss you are experiencing. You took such tender care of Juliet in her final days and she told me how grateful she was to be surrounded by her loved ones. She was clearly very proud of her children sharing their many accomplishments with us. An exceptional women, never afraid to tackle a renovation job … we had lots of chats on flooring, wall colour, landscaping and decorating ideas. When Juliet offered to bring a dish to a potluck she never disappointed … her charcuterie board was outstanding and could feed an army. Juliet was a good friend and the only person I knew to share my quirky dislike of Christmas.

Courage and grace come to mind when I think of Juliet … she may be gone but will always be here in our hearts.

    Sharing your sadness.

    Mar & Jim

Kindness and empathy — that’s how I would describe Juliet in a nutshell. She had the ability to transform a nobody into a somebody. I couldn’t agree more with the obituary, which states: She was patient, loving, and understood that “life is people.”

Juliet, you touched the lives of so many people around you. You will always be remembered and never forgotten!

Rand, Ryan, James, and Haylee, please accept my deepest sympathies.

Dearest Cousin, and Ryan, James, Haylee,
Such great loss for you, Juliet was so much a wonderfully thoughtful person. I can’t imagine your grief.

I will be looking forward to seeing you all this summer, and spending some time remembering Juliet, for whom life was people.

Some words that would describe Juliet, considerate, adaptable, courageous, diligent, creative, adventurous, striking, and impeccable at what ever she tackled. Juliet always thought of others before herself, as she had done for myself many many times, and for all that and more my dear friend, you will always be in my heart. My thoughts and the comfort of healing to your amazing husband Rand and three equally amazing children, Ryan, James and Haylee are projected their way each day. A loss to this world but a gain to the next.
