It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Julio. Julio was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on July 3, 2011 after a short brave battle with cancer. He faced his illness bravely and with dignity. He never gave into bitterness or despair. He maintained hope and fought for as long as God gave him strength.
Julio is survived by Maria, his loving wife of 44 yrs; his daughter, Carmen (Jim); his son, Nelson; his daughter, Natercia (Jason); his grandchildren, Amanda, James and Colton; his brother, Manuel and many nieces and nephews.
Julio was born in Agua de Pau, S. Miguel, Acores, Portugal. At age 12, he started his apprenticeship for carpentry and became a master craftsman by the age 19. He took great pride in his work and every project was done to perfection. He was a man who knew what an honest days work was and delivered it without complaint. He immigrated to Canada in 1966 to join his brothers, Isaias and Manuel and his sister, Margarida. On May 11, 1967 he married Maria, the love of his life.
He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved the quiet and solitude of his garden and spent many hours in it. Julio was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a compassionate, generous man who loved to laugh and was an inspiration to many. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in GLAD TIDINGS CHURCH, 1800 Quadra Street. Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park with a reception thereafter at Glad Tidings Church.

Jerry, Renata, Karoline, Katherine Rzyski We are very sorry to hear of the great loss of Julio. Julio was such a wonderful neighbor and friend. We will always remember his smiling face and warm “hello” that we exchanged for so many years. He was easy to talk to, friendly and ready to help every time we turned to him for advice or just to share highs and lows of daily life. For our family Julio was and always will be a very special friend.

John & Fran Kennedy We are saddened to hear of Julio”s sudden passing. It was a great shock to us. John has worked many years with Julio and respected him very much . Julio truly was a Master Craftsman. He was extremely proud to do a good job of whatever he put his hand to. It was a priviledge to have known him.

Julie I love you and miss you Padrinho!! You were truly an amazing man and I am so proud to call you my Uncle and Godfather!! I pray for strength,comfort and peace for his family at such a difficult time! I pray God’s presence and comfort will be felt by all who are greiving right now.
