Karen died suddenly (aneurism) on July 6th, 2016 while on vacation with her family in Parksville. She was born in Nelson, BC, on October 10, 1946.

Karen is survived by her loving husband Ralston; daughter Kristen (Simon) Doran; son John; grandchildren Rory and Katie Doran; brother John (Judy) Langstaff; sister Elaine (George) Steacy and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by many other close relatives and special friends.

Karen and Ralston were childhood sweethearts and were married in Salmon Arm, BC in 1967. They moved to Victoria in 1969 to start their careers and family. When the kids were in school, Karen returned to teaching, which gave her great satisfaction and enjoyment. Karen was an avid reader, a life-long learner and was always curious about the world and its history. She loved travelling and the international cruises that she and Ralston enjoyed in recent years. That being said, her greatest love was her family to whom she was the most devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her unlimited capacity for kindness and caring for others.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at First Metropolitan United Church at 932 Balmoral Road, on Saturday, July 16th at 2pm, with Rev. Wilda Cottam officiating.  A reception will follow at the Uplands Golf Club at 3.30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen’s name to the Migraine Research Foundation – https://migraineresearchfoundation.org
