6 April 1920 – 16 April 2011

Katherine passed away peacefully in her home with her devoted husband, Harry, by her side. Born on the Isle of Bute, Scotland, she had three sisters, Margaret, Mhairi and Muriel. As a girl, she lived in Glasgow, growing up with the sounds of the marching bands. During WWII, she worked for the Women’s Volunteer Service in India. She met her husband of 60 years on Bahrain Island, married and then returned to Largs, Scotland. From there, they moved to Canada where she was a Sunday school teacher in Valleyview, AB and Calgary prior to becoming the wonderful mother to Dirk and Margaret. From Calgary, the family moved to Peachland, BC where Katherine became an active member in the small community along side her husband. There was good competitive golfing, cross country skiing and fishing along with a busy time with St. Margaret’s Anglican church. Upon Harry’s retirement, they moved to Victoria. Once established here, Katherine became an active lawn bowler with the VLBC and was the “novice” champion. She went on to coach and also win many trophies with Harry. Katherine will always be remembered by her loving husband, Harry; son, Dirk (Esther); daughter, Margaret; grandsons, Caldwell and Morgan; sister, Muriel (Knut) and many other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

I loved Katherine very much and cherish the memory of how she left a sweet note welcoming me to her home under my pillow the first time I met her in Peachland. She was a gentle soul with a tender heart and I will always have fond memories of how she tried to make a mixed up girl like me feel loved and accepted. My deep condolences to the family.
