Kathleen Mitchell passed away on October 28th 2011 at Selkirk Place, Victoria B.C. She was born in Port Burwell, Ontario on March 26th, 1916. She is survived by her niece, Joan (Bell River, Ontario). Kathleen worked with Dow Chemical in Sarnia, Ontario for many years. She was one of the first woman executives of her time. She loved her job at Dow and had many fond memories of both the work and the people whom she worked with. After retirement she moved to Victoria to be close to her sister, Elizabeth. Kathleen always had a welcoming smile for everyone she met. She was very intelligent and was known to engage in a few debates of politics and world affairs. She was an avid reader of the Globe & Mail. Kathleen moved to Selkirk Place in August of 2010. She quickly became a favorite of the staff. She was treated well and enjoyed a visit from the staff when they had a bit of extra time. She was a very independent and positive person and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

No service at Kathleen’s request. Condolences may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.

My wife Nancy and I were friends of Kathleen in Sarnia. Following our move to Calgary and later Kathleen’s to Victoria, Kathleen visited us in Calgary on one occasion, and we saw Kathleen on many occasions during our visits to Victoria, Our meetings with Kathleen in Victoria were highlights of these visits. Among other things, we explored directions being taken in Canadian and world affairs in many interesting and stimulating conversations. Kathleen’s friendship meant much to Nancy and me, and pass along our condolences,

    Best wishes,
    Nancy and John Henderson.

My Mother, Ellen Lewis, was a friend of Kathleen’s in Sarnia. When Kathleen moved to Victoria, my Mom would call and visit her when she was visiting me here. I have a good memory of a lunch Kathleen, Mom and I shared at the Coast Harbourside (Blue Crab Grill) a few years ago where we had a window table, watched the passing boats and had a wonderful conversation about the past, present and future. My Mom is in a nursing home now in Cambridge, Ontario, but I know she would want to pass along her condolences and say how much she valued Kathleen’s friendship.
    Best wishes,
    Peggy Lewis
