On February 11, 2012 with her family by her side, Kay left us and joined her beloved husband, Metro. She will be remembered always by her son, David and his wife, Sandra; granddaughters, Sheri and her partner, Ethan and Andrea and her husband, Ash; the Monych family and many other relatives and countless friends. Kay was born and grew up in the Krasney area of Saskatchewan, the youngest of 5 children. In the late forties, she moved to Victoria to work on a farm in the Keating area. It was in 1948 while at a party in Vancouver that she met Metro. They were married in 1949 and after a short time in Vancouver, they returned to the Keating area where they built their first home. In 1960 they moved to Brentwood Bay where she lived until 2010. For a number of years she worked at the Brentwood Merchantile before retiring. She was also very active in her church where she spent hundreds of hours volunteering and was always ready to help pinch pyrohy and make cabbage rolls. Kay loved gardening and there was always something blooming in her yard. Winter nights were spent knitting and sewing. She took great joy in making outfits for her granddaughters. Baking and braiding Ukrainian breads was another area where she excelled. But the most important thing in her life was her family and friends. Whether you called her Mom, Grandma, Aunty, or Kay you knew that you could count on her to offer her support and love. She always put the needs of others before her own. While she will be greatly missed, we can take comfort in knowing that she and Metro will now be together forever. Her family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr Valerie Cowan and the staff and volunteers at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion.

Prayers will be offered in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2012. Funeral Service will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the SPH Palliative Care Unit or any other charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

To David and family. Some of my mother’s happiest working life was spent at the Brentwood Merchantile working with your mom. She spoke fondly of her many years after the fact. My thoughts are with you.
