It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Kenneth Lawrence Toby. Predeceased by his wife, Gloria Toby on January 10, 1989; his parents, Edna and Len Toby and sister, June Barrett, Dad is remembered with love by his children, Patti Tillapaugh, Craig, Mike, Shannon Glover (Iain); his sister, Kathy Maluorno and his beloved “good old puppy”, Sonny. Dad leaves eight grandchildren (Shane, Katie, Angie, Maria, Ashleigh, Dylan, Ben and Nick) and five great-grandchildren (Mya, Kapri, Grayson, Presley and Beckett).
Dad was born in Winnipeg and moved out to Victoria with family in 1947 at which time he started what proved to be a very successful commercial masonry construction company. He has left us a legacy of many prominent brick buildings around the greater Victoria area including the Provincial Museum, Harbour Towers and The Laurel Point Inn just to name a few.
His endless tenacity and work ethic provided our family with a full and active lifestyle in a beautiful home.
We will miss Dad’s strong sense of family, his wisdom and his witty humour.
To celebrate Dad’s life, there will be an open house held Saturday, April 2 at the Coast Victoria Harbourside Hotel, 146 Kingston Street in James Bay between 1 pm and 4 pm.

As a boy growing up in Vancouver I always enjoyed when my family made a trip over to Victoria to see the Toby family. You are my favorite family I used to ride horses pick cherries in trees on your property you would take us for salmon and Ling Cod.I wondered why I never chose to become a brick layers helper during the Summers. Instead I stayed in Vancouver and Caddied but I always thought I would the next summer I never did that but my other cousin Gordie did your boys did. I also remember you and Auntie Gloria sleeping outside during the evenings under the stars on your back patio. I remember you driving around in your pick up trucC. I remember your incredible sense of humor and your fiesty strong attitude towards life,you didn’t suffer fools well. You left behind a large family they will all miss you dearly as do I love always your nephew, Kelly

Jennie Peddlesden Dear Patti, Craig, Mike & Shannon. I was so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing and I send you my deepest condolences.
I have such fond memories of the years Mike and I and our family spent with you and your Mom and Dad, boating, camping and travelling. Also, some of the crazy things Ken and Mike would get up to but it was all fun and we had a lot of good laughs.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and all the wonderful memories will live on in our hearts.

My condolences go out to the family. I first met Gloria and Ken when Shannon and I became friends in grade 10. We lost contact years ago. When I read about Mr Toby I had to send a note to let the family know I was thinking of them in their time of loss. I have fond memories of going to their house, it was always filled with laughter.
