Died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family, on Monday October 6, 2008. Ken is survived by his dear wife Elia; his children Janet (Brad), Terry (Eric), Susan (predeceased husband D’Arcy), Jim (Moira); his granddaughters Robin, Heidi, Mallory and Holly; and his brothers Alan (Peg) and Stuart (Margaret). Born in Victoria in 1929, Ken was remarkable in his ability to make a lasting impression on those he met, be they life-long friends or recent acquaintances. All who knew him were blessed by the warmth and grace of his personality. A dedicated school teacher and principal for 35 years, Ken had a natural flair for bringing out the best in others. His love of music was a gift that he shared enthusiastically, both as a tuba player in various community bands, and as an appreciative listener. Among his many interests and passions were traditional jazz and vintage cars. Together with Elia, Ken maintained a healthy and active balance physically, mentally, and spiritually throughout his retirement. His was a life exceptionally welllived; an exemplary man, honest and true.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at First Metropolitan United Church on Monday, October 13 at 1:00 pm, the Reverends Gordon Cann and E. Laura Butler officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. For those who wish, Ken may be viewed prior to the church service, between 11:00 am 12:30 pm, at McCall Bros, Johnson & Vancouver Streets. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Seniors’ Ensemble, Victoria Citadel, 3rd Floor, 777 Fort Street, Victoria, B.C., V8W 1G9.
