It was my privilege to know Lois Batten through her work on the diocesan retreats committee when I was director of program for the diocese. Her gentleness, dedication, kindness and devotion were an inspiration to all who worked with her. May she rest in peace, and see face to face the God she loved and served throughout her life.

I am sorry that I could not be with all of you today. I remember Lois as a giving, loving lady, who always impressed me with her patient, caring nature to all those around her. She always displayed such patience and quiet good humour, and I can only hope that all those fortunate to know her will have had some of those qualities rub off on them. With hugs to all of you,
    Ann Scarfe

To The Batten Family, This note is sent from Lorna Daniel and her daughters, Pam (Wilkinson) and Patty (Reynolds) and from the Daniel family. We were so sad to hear of your loss and wish to offer our prayers for your comfort at this sad time. Over the years, Mrs. Batten has been known in many ways by our family. I, Pam remember her as a teacher who inspired my beginning love of poetry. We all remember her devotion and love for the Cathedral and came to count on her faithful presence whenever we were there. She will be much missed. Sent with prayerful love and blessings. Lorna and family.

Fondest memories of fifty years ago with Auntie Lois! I remember when she arrived from Britain and stayed with us as she got settled into life in Victoria. She always had a sunny smile and a sparkling laugh! To Auntie Lois the glass was always ‘half full’ and she approached life and all her relationships with that sentiment. I am blessed to have known her and grieve with you for her. However, I know her very strong faith will carry her to her promised resting place.
God Bless Alan and to all the family.

Lois was a part of my life growing up considering all the time Micheal and I spend playing together. She made great freezie pops in the summer which I still remember.

I don’t think any of Lois’s family will know who I am, but I was a new exchange teacher in Victoria in 1965. Lois and Alan invited me round for dinner – I think they were involved in the exchange group here – and a lovely couple they were indeed, introducing me to many others in the group. I returned to England and lost touch, but I think there was at least one small child in the house at the time of the dinner – who must be close to 50 now!! I was the beneficiary of their generosity and help in settling in, and I returned to Victoria two years later for good. Bless you all as you grieve Lois’s passing, but I am sure you know how many lives she touched and cared for – mine was just one, a long time ago, but what a difference she and Alan made to my life.
