July 4, 1941 to January 11, 2013
Loraine Gaile Noel (Crockford) passed peacefully on January 11, 2013 at her family home in View Royal after a very short illness. Throughout her life Loraine excelled at business, starting with her ceramics business (Noel Ceramics) and later owning a Diet Centre franchise in Oak Bay. Loraine also demonstrated a love and passion for gardening, sewing, embroidery and quilting. Nevertheless, Loraine always placed family as her first priority.
Loraine and her husband of 52 years, Carl, would be described by friends and family as best friends; high school sweethearts that remained that way for their entire life. This beautiful union produced three devoted and equally family focused children, Stewart, Doug and Lynn.
After Carl, the second great love of Loraine’s life was her six granddaughters. Stewart and Sandra started with Lauren and Maddison, Doug and Cathy were next with Robyn and Taylor, and Lynn and Spencer finalized the six with Sarah and Claire. Each granddaughter has a personalized quilt made with love by Grandma, truly a treasure for a lifetime.
The legacy left behind by Loraine will run deeper than just with friends and family as Loraine’s caring nature and love for hospitality was experienced by many. Whether it was the family Christmas parties in their home or happy hours at the cabin, Loraine always had room for a few extra guests. Loraine will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Saanich Baptist Church, 4347 Wilkinson Road, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Louis & Marie Gauci Carl,
Louis & I are so very saddened to hear of Loraine’s passing.
Moira, Al Duffus’s daughter just informed us.
We were Ernie’s neighbors at 43 Knollwood.
We loved Ernie like family and it brings a smile to my face every time I think of him but also every time I think of Loraine being able to live at the property she so loved, with you.
It was such a wonderful story of complete and utter happiness.
I think of Ernie and you and Loraine often.
You are in our thoughts.
Marie

Jackson Low + Geraldine Wong & Tyler Carl, Stewart, Doug, Lynn,
We are still in shock. The four of you and the extended family were so blessed to have had her in your lives. We’ve only known her for a short 20 or so years and can only imagine the void she has left. But that is all balanced by the countless memories you have to share with each other. She was a beautiful and classy lady. As we reflect on Life’s journey we can truly say that we were very fortunate to have met her and all of you as well. We will miss her also. Carl, Stewart, Doug and Lynn, you and your families are in our prayers and in our hearts. Carl if you ever need anything, just call.

Jake Fiddick Carl – I was so very shocked to learn of Lorraine’s passing and would like to pass on my sincere condolences on your great loss. When I saw both of you last fall at our reunion reception I thought that you both looked great. The years had been kind to both you and Lorraine (some people never seem to age) , but I guess when you see someone at our age I guess you never know if that will be the last time we will see that person. I have some nice memories of when you and Lorraine started dating and the parties that she used to have at her home on Cedar Hill Road (I seem to recall “spin the bottle ” – do you remember that ? I seem to recall that you saw someone running across her yard late one night with a gas can ? Anyway – my heart goes out to you. Jake

Susan Bowes Dear Carl and family:
So sorry to learn of Lorraine’s passing. My husband Doug, who taught Art at Vic High many years ago, said that Lorraine was such a good friend of the Art Program, and provided him with a great deal of encouragement and assistance. She was kind and friendly, and that meant a lot to him. He liked her very much. So sad that she is gone.
Sincerely
Cousin Susan Bowes

My deepest sadness and condolence in hearing the terrible lost ! My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. As you may know, Loraine was a very special classmate during my high school years. I have and will always cherish and remembered those lucky times yearly, in the school table tennis house team tournaments in the mixed doubles category. Unfortunately, we never could get to the winning circle , but I didn’t care, when you get teamed up with a pretty classmate like Loraine?

Virginia Rego (Jackson) Reading the TC this morning I came across Loraine’s obituary, a woman I had previously only known as “Lynn’s mom”. I have fond memories of visiting when Lynn and I were students at Lake Hill. I can still picture her mother’s impressive weaving loom in the living room and remember painting my own piece of pottery in the basement. My thoughts to Lynn and her brothers, and dad, and of course to all of the family and friends of “Lynn’s mom”.
