It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Grace Larson, affectionately known as Lori, on September 10, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born in Alberta, Lori spent most of her life in Kelowna, British Columbia, where she built a remarkable career in dance and a life rich in family, friendships, and community.
A passionate and dedicated dance educator, Lori co-owned the Canadian School of Ballet with her longtime business partner, Mel Elliott-Brown. Specializing in Highland dance, as well as tap and jazz, she devoted countless hours to nurturing young dancers, sharing her creativity, discipline, and enthusiasm with generations of students. She also co-produced the school’s annual production of The Nutcracker, a cherished tradition that brought performers and audiences together in celebration of the arts.
Her love of dance extended well beyond the studio. Lori accompanied her students to competitions, festivals, and cultural excursions, creating opportunities for them to experience the world and build friendships and memories that would last a lifetime.
Away from the dance floor, Lori brought the same energy and devotion to her family and home. A loving mother and grandmother, she was a wonderful cook, a creative spirit, and someone who took great pride in making her home a welcoming and beautiful place. Holidays were particularly special to Lori, who embraced every opportunity to celebrate and bring people together.
She loved music, travel, and the companionship of her beloved pets. Energetic, engaged, and generous with her love, Lori approached the things that mattered to her with wholehearted enthusiasm.
Lori was the mother of two sons, Eric and Scott, whom she raised with her former husband, Clay, and the proud grandmother of Danika, Ava, Kristen, and Emmet.
After many fulfilling years in Kelowna, Lori retired to Victoria, British Columbia.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication, reflected not only in her family but also in the many students whose lives she touched through the joy of dance.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
