Lucille Rachel Bishop (nee Hastings) passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on January 3, 2017. Rachel is survived by her husband, Gary, and her Uncle Ray, reuniting with her parents, Janet and Keith, for whom she unfailingly cared for.

Travel was Rachel’s most profound mentor. It provided the experiences which created a empathetic, generous, graceful and loving woman. Always a creative spirit, Rachel immensely enjoyed pursuing her many artistic interests.

A refuge of calm amidst a storm, she best exemplified this by her optimism, determination and courage until her last breath. I can’t believe we have lost you. I’ll love you forever, Sweetheart.

A very special thank you to Maureen, Jamie and those that cared for her with such kindness at Victoria Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Victoria Hospice or BC Cancer Foundation are appreciated.

Respectfully, Rachel has requested no service.

    To Gary:

My thoughts are with you at this unbelievably sad time. I have not seen Rachel for many years, but during a telephone conversation in May (after her father Keith passed away), we talked of meeting again. As you know, Janet was my dearest friend. We met in the 1950’s and remained close – whether near or far apart. Rachel was born, in New Zealand, one week after my daughter, Kathleen.

I know Rachel was an amazing, beautiful and kind woman. Janet felt blessed to have such a daughter, and talked of her many accomplishments. Rachel’s love and care for both Janet and Keith was indicative of her loving heart.

    With love,
    Sybil

This loss has rocked so many of us who worked with Rachel, especially the team who worked together in the early 1990s. She was lovely inside and out, a great motivator, team member and leader.

Deepest condolences to Rachel’s family. I have worked with Rachel on a few projects over the past many years, for which she has left a lasting impression.
I thank Rachel’s kindness and appreciation for one of my best work days ever. Rachel sent me a meeting request, to attend at her office with a few other CAWS colleagues. I arrived to find a number of people, most of which I only knew via email, refreshments, cake, card and Rachel’s big smile. I was so overwhelmed with what Rachel had put together for me, I remained speechless the entire time. Although correspondence for that project has long been deleted, I still have follow-up emails from that event, often re-reading bringing back a wonderful memory and smile to my face, turning a bad day into good.
Thank you Rachel, you will be missed by all who have known you.

Hearing of Rachel’s passing brought forth so many wonderful memories of the days when we worked together. Rachel was our Audrey Hepburn – elegant, gentle, patient, loving, funny and so many other qualities that most of us only aspire to. It was an honour to know her. I offer my sincere and deep condolences.

I worked at 800 Johnson Street in the finance dept., for 8 years and enjoyed the many times Rachel and I would chat about dealing with our aging parents. I always found her to be such a calm and grounded person who always had a smile, nothing seemed to upset her which is hard to imagine with all that she did.
To say that this is a sad time is an understatement, my heart goes out to Gary and family as she was a beautiful soul.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
