It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Lyla Jeane Braz, on December 1, 2023. She was born on September 11, 1951 to Christopher and Veda Thorbergson in Nelson BC. She was the youngest of 4 children. (Anne, Edward (Bud) and Dennis).
Jeane was predeceased by the love of her life, Joe in 2015; parents, Christopher and Veda Thorbergson; big sister, Anne (Mike); brother, Edward (Bud) as well as her brother in law, Carlos and in laws, Antonio and Maria Braz.
She is survived by her children, Philip (Mishelle), Kristina (Ricardo) Steve (Blair); grandchildren, Mateo, Aryana, Cristiano, Nikolas, Matias, Jensen and Alden; brother, Dennis (Joyce); sister in law, Carmen; nieces and nephews, Vicki (Derek), Randy, Shannon, Kristopher, Tianna and many family members and friends.
In Jeane’s early career she worked with children with disabilities at GF Strong in Vancouver. She married the love of her life, Joe, and
started a family. Jeane was an amazing mother, grandmother and friend to all. She dedicated her life to caring and helping family and friends and made countless contributions to many different charities. Her greatest quality was her selflessness. Jeane placed the needs of others before her own, leaving a legacy of compassion and kindness.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, followed by entombment at Royal Oak Mausoleum.

To the Braz family, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I really remember her well from all the the time she spent at the school and the ballpark when we were kids. She was always so nice and supportive of us all. I know what a great mom she was and am really thinking of you all.
Our thoughts are with your family. We have known you for over 40 years in Gordon Head at Torquay school and through Gordon Head soccer. Our son is friends with Steve after all these years. I walk past your house several times a day taking my grandson to school. I think of you often. Nancy and Dave Hodgson
Kristina – I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a treasure in your life and you beamed when you spoke of her. Her love will live on forever in you. Love to you all.
Philip, Kristina and Steve – you are such lovely people because you had amazing parents. Your mother was always so thoughtful of others and had a hug and a smile for all she met. My family were close to yours when you were young children and we will all miss your mother. May God bless you at this challenging time and may your memories of happier times sustain you all.
