Born in Dorval, Quebec on October 25, 1915. Died at Mt. St. Mary Hospital in Victoria, B.C. on March 16, 2012. Survived by her husband of 71 years Gerald; son, Michael (Kathy); daughters, Jose Weber (Gary) and Suzanne Olson; sister, Claudine Cartier in Montreal; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mother and Dad were married in Montreal in 1939 but soon moved to Winnipeg. The War brought moves to Edmonton and across the prairies to Saskatoon where they settled for many years. Mother enjoyed being a wife and mother while Dad built his business. Upon their relocation to the West, Mother became a career woman with Safeco Ins. ending her career as Executive Assistant to the President of Seattle University. She was also a Director of Faculty Wives at Seattle University. Mother enjoyed her later years in Victoria assisting Dad in his work for the Diocese. They travelled all over the island and built an amazing network of friends. She loved to entertain and enjoyed giving wonderful dinners and parties for their many friends. Mom had a talent for making and keeping friends; many for a half century and more from Montreal, the Prairies and Seattle. She was a loving and caring Mom always there for us and believing we were the best kids ever. We will miss her wonderful zest for life and happy smile. She was a very special lady.

Prayers will be offered in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets in Victoria, BC at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 23, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in ST. JEAN BAPTISTE PARISH at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 24th with a reception to follow mass. Interment at Ross Bay Cemetery to follow after reception. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Dear Gerry and Family:

My thoughts and prayers are with you in this, the time of your great loss.

Madeleine always brought a smile to my face just by her presence. Her good cheer and sweetness were infectious and so it is no wonder that people loved her so.

Gerry, you and she graced our dinner parties and other at home events and warmed the hearts of many, many of our guests who, once they had met you once or twice always asked after you. Socially you were a real power couple. You certainly wowed me!

Complementing the good times were Madeleine’s (and your) care, concern, and support during the dark days of David Ruddy’s illnesses, not only for and of him but of me as well. Her emails to him and the ones to me brought brightness to many a hard day. I will carry the memory of this sign of genuine friendship to the last of my own days. It will always wear her face.

    God bless,

    John
