I have just learnt of the passing of Maurice – my deepest sympathies to the entire family. I saw him many years ago and his Mom Irene always had a twinkle in her eye when she talked about him. It is sad to have someone leave this Earth at such a young age but hope he watches over his family and gives them the courage to cherish the memories they made over the years. Rest in Peace Maurice

It was with great sadness that I learned the news of Moe’s passing away, by my cousin who lives in Victoria. I met Moe for the first time in the mid 90s, and I had the privilege to work with him at CFB Esquimalt from 97 to 2000. He was one of my greatest friend, and I will always remember him for his smile and good laughs. Moe and Stephen were really great hosts when they invited friends to their new house and other events, like a sailing trip, weekend of camping, etc. Last time I saw Moe, was during my cross country trip by train, in 2007, that ended in Victoria, and Moe and i had a nice dinner together. My sincere condolences to the family, and particularly Stephen, his partner of many years.
    All my prayers

My condolences to Moe’s family. I met Moe in 2007 and found him to be a down-to-earth guy, full of life. I remember his stories of sailing around the islands and the joy he had in recounting his traveling experiences. I know he enjoyed life, but I am saddened by the fact it was so short. He is one of those persons that positively influenced those around him. Rest in peace, Moe.

He was a true professional as a Personnel Administration Officer(Logistics) ,leader and friend.

  • John Haggis

My deepest sympathy to Maurice’s family. Moe was a man of service, always willing to do the extra to help people out. I had the pleasure of working with Moe on the CFSA Executive where he was Vice CMDRE and training officer. As training officer, he would use his own boat to take parents out so they could watch their children sail. It was small acts like that, which made him so special. He will be missed by us all.

  • WO Joe Merritt

I was deeply saddened to hear of Maj Gauthier’s passing.

Althought I worked with him for less than a year he always treated me like an old friend. He had a delightful irreverent sense of humour, which I enjoyed immensely.

To say that his time with us was far too short is an understatement. The reality is that he will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. May you all find the strength and courage to get through the days ahead.

  • Louise Hardy

Maurice & I are cousins through our moms who were twin sisters… so I lovingly called Maurice my ‘other’ younger brother. We got good use of that line over the years. I lost my real brother in 1974 so Maurice then became my ‘only’ brother. I have too many great memories to list so I will share only this one – the boy gave great hugs. My heart goes out to Stephen and his mother, as well as Maurice’s siblings, my god-father Lucien and god-mother Irene. Say hi to the family, till we meet again.

  • Alastair/Bella Mulholland

We wish to extend our deepest condolences to you all at this sad time. Sincerely Alastair and Bella. 4740 Treetops

I was with great sadness to hear the news of Moe’s sudden passing. Working with him at CFB Esquimalt over the last 3 years, Moe always had a smile and often a joke and laugh for all. Deepest sympathy and warm sincerity to his family, friends and life partner from all those that had the pleasure of knowing him. Let us gain comfort from the thought of him resting in a better place, and always remember his soul and spirit in our hearts.

  • Judy Marston

I miss him already. He was a kindred spirit and while we haven’t seen each other as much as would have been nice in the past year, I woke up the morning of his death thinking “I need to call Moe” and then, as life interceded, I didn’t. Now I regret it incredibly, as you might guess. I’ll miss my friend so much. Steph, thank you for leaving the message the other day — I haven’t called back to give you time to grieve, but I will say hello at the memorial this weekend. I am so bereft for your loss. And I’m so saddened for all of our loss because Moe was a really amazing bright spark on this planet and he has left us way way WAYYY too soon.

  • Ron & Marilyn Matthews

I am saddened by the news of Moe’s passing. I had the good fortune of working with Moe at MARPAC. He was a man of quality who called it as he saw it. I recall many instances where his enlightened perspective served as a beacon for the way ahead.

Stephen, friends and family, please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

  • Reed I Cudmore, Padre

I recall Moe clearly from our days at Naden, in the mid to late nineties, although I had not seen him since. His calm, professional manner at meetings, and his sunny disposition always impressed me. May God’s grace and compassion be with his family and friends in this difficult time.
    Yours most respectfully,
    RI Cudmore

I still can’t believe that Maj. Gauthier has left this earth so early….at such a young age with so many dreams still to be fulfilled. He has been my Commandant for almost 5 years at BLTC and has been a great leader. He was a caring, fair, open minded and honest person whom I will remember forever. I know that he will be missed by a lot of people. My heart goes to Stephen as well as to all his family and friends.
    Sincerely,
    Céline

My deepest sympathy to Moe’s family during this terrible time. I was fortunate to have Moe help me deliver my sailboat from Vancouver some eleven years ago and have always appreciated his goodness, fairness and his smile. Truly a good man and much respected. Knowing Moe made one a better person and his memory will carry on. Our thoughts are with the family.

Sincere condolences to Maj (Ret’d) Moe Gauthier’s family and friends. Courage during this very sad period. Taken early,…His loss is a choc to anyone who has known him, he was a true human being. He lived every moment, it seemed, as if it was the last, rightously : he was peaceful, generous, very friendly with an obvious and permanent sense of duty, and patriotism…An ideal colleague. I got to cross path with him at random in a parking lot a week before his passing…A smiling face is a vivid memory of the happy and peaceful man I have known. Reposez en paix, vous manquerez énormément à votre famille, aux amis et collègues.

My deepest condolences to Moe’s family and friends. Although I’d only known Moe for three years he always greeted me as a old friend. I will miss talking about old cars over a beer and seeing that infectous smile as he walked the docks at the sailing club. May God bless his family and comfort them at this time of loss.
