July 22, 1922 – May 23, 2012

Our loving mother passed away on May 23, 2012 with family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; sisters, Evelyn Fry, Muriel (Tommy) MacKay and Florence (Flo) Ruff. Margaret is survived by her loving children and grandchildren, Laureen Evans (Dan, Chris and Mike Evans), Trish Main (Allison and Kathleen Hammell), Marian Kirk (Roger, Bryannie and Jillian Kirk) and Don Main (Mckenzie and Kennedy Main). Margaret was the second of four daughters born to Willie and Mabel Williams in Morinville, Alberta. The family relocated to Victoria in the early 1940s. During the war years, Mom worked at CIBC and our lucky father, Lloyd, was fortunate enough to snag her and take her dancing. How they loved to dance throughout their 64 years together. Mom was busy raising four kids who adored her and also enjoyed dancing, gardening, flower arranging, knitting, playing bridge, attending performances and cheering us on at every activity. Mom created a home that was the place where friends and family gathered. It was a happy madhouse made so by the patience, kindness, love and generosity of Mom. As we grew into teens, Mom enjoyed a return to work at CIBC. Always a people person, Mom made friends wherever she went. She will be greatly missed, as she was loved by all of those fortunate enough to have been in her wide circle of friends and family. We wish to thank the staff of Douglas Care Community who made the best possible life for Mom over the past sixteen months. We also wish to thank Dr. James Houston whose support, kindness, friendship and expertise supported Mom and our family for decades.

Celebration of life to be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined in favour of donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

So sorry Laureen to hear of your lovely mum’s passing. We just lost my Dad this month, so i know the emptiness you’re feeling. Our folks are the centre of our world and it’s odd when they’ve both gone isn’t it. I’m back living in Oak Bay with a wonderful partner, an OBHS teacher recently retired, and would love to catch up someday soon.

    Laureen and family,
I am sorry to hear of your Mum’s passing. She was a lovely lady and truly enjoyed life. My brother has been visiting here from Australia so it has been very busy, plus my sister’s husband passed away in Prince George last week so I have hardly had a minute to read the paper. Take care and cherish the memories. Brenda Quin

Just wanted to offer my condolences to the family.. I had the pleasure of working with your mother and grandmother at the CIBC Government and Fort Street for several years. She was a wonderful lady loved by staff and clients alike. Margaret had the most wonderfrul smile and sense of humour. She taught me and I’m sure countless others how to knit.. Just that alone took tremendous patience on her part. We had many happy times and good laughs together.. I ran into her on BC Ferries several years after the branch closed.. She was recovering from hip surgery and anxious for when she could get back to her dancing.. A wonderful lady who brought joy to everyone who met her. I ‘m sorry for your loss and she will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have met her.

To all members of the Main family:
It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of your Mom, and a fine lady she was. We connected some years ago with both at the Gordon Head School celebrations and whenever we came to Victoria from Nfld, we rejoined the Saturday morning coffee circuit at Tim’s. We were in total awe with the friends they both had and the sharp memories. There contribution to other peoples lives should never be forgotten. They touched the Heart and Soul of so many and may they both rest in peace together. Words cannot describe what we feel for your loss. Our prayers are with you, God Bless…
