aka “The Slipper Lady”

Our beloved Mom and “Baba” passed away peacefully on May 12, 2011 in Victoria. She was born on April 12, 1925 in Bela Crkva in the Province of Vojvodina in the former Yugoslavia. She is survived by daughters, Vera and Anne (Cameron). She was blessed with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, all of whom she loved very much and will be especially missed by Tammy, Erica, Levi, Adam and Hanna. She is predeceased by her sons, Franz and Jakob, daughter, Erika as well as her brother, Johan and sister, Marijana. The years she spent in Europe during WWII were especially difficult for her due to so many personal losses and the witnessing of many atrocities of war but her eventual escape to freedom brought her to Canada where she flourished as a proud new Canadian, making life long friends, working hard at any job she had and watching her family grow with great pride. Baba touched many peoples’ lives with a kind word or gesture, especially when she was at craft fairs selling her handknit slippers and sweaters. She always had a tender spot in her heart for children, in particular babies, when she was at these events, and we know she’ll be missed by her many crafter friends and neighbours.

Sleep well and be at peace at last ….for we know that God has welcomed you home after such a difficult but rich journey.

A Memorial Service will be held in Victoria at Oak Bay United Church Church on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

Dearest Anne and Vera and families,
We are so sorry for loss of your mom. She was a good lady and really will be missed. We have fondest memories of you mom. We would ride the city bus in Port Alberni and she would always have a warm, welcoming smile and would be ready for a bit of conversation. Anne, I remember your mom sitting in her chair, watching TV and knitting up a storm 🙂
We pray God’s comfort and peace through this time and hope for you the wonderful memories to help you in the days to come.
    with much love,
    Carol and Dorothy
