It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Margot Helene Wieland, who died peacefully and surrounded by love on September 30, 2016 at the age of 83. Margot will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter Carmen (Edward, husband) and sister Gisela, and Gisela’s children Rudi and Andrea.
Born in Kemtau, Germany on February 23, 1933, Margot met her future husband Elvin at a New Year’s Eve party at the Edelweiss Club. They married on July 10, 1965 and together they would build two very successful businesses in Victoria; Dad in electrical and Mom in fashion. Margot spent 35 years dressing the ladies of James Bay with her famous custom designed knitwear. After retiring from fashion, Margot took up her second love of child minding.
All the way through to her final days, Margot derived immense joy from life’s simple pleasures: listening to Il Divo, reading, taking long walks along the sea shore by Glenlyon Norfolk School or up at the Lieutenant Governor’s residence, enthusiastically cheering on her Canucks or any national German soccer team, and, above all else, cooking meals and spending time with her “little” family. Her quick wit, independent spirit and intellectual curiosity were infectious to all those around her and will be sorely missed.
The family would like to extend sincerest gratitude to Dr. Felipe Edora and the entire staff at Mt. Tolmie Hospital, whose compassionate care for Margot was greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Margot’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Water’s Edge Clubhouse, 2600 Ferguson Road, Saanichton BC.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made “In Memory of Margot Wieland” to Paddle for Health (http://www.paddleforhealth.ca/)
