Passed away peacefully on 14 Oct 2009, after a courageous struggle with Multiple System Atrophy.

Marian was born September 13, 1936 in Regina Sk. She was predeceased by her parents, Sidney and Elaine; and grandson, Mitchell.

Marian is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jim; son, Scott (Catherine); daughter, Karen (Keith); her grandchildren, Robyn, Bryce, Mason and Spencer; brother, Raymond (Edie); sister, Blanche (Jim). She will be deeply missed by many other relatives and friends.

Marian and Jim met when both were serving in the RCAF at Rockliffe On, in 1956. They were married on 29 June 1957 in Rockliffe. Scott was born in 1958 in Ottawa and Karen in 1961 in Winnipeg. Marian and Jim spent the next 30 years at various Air Force stations (Winnipeg, Mb; Lahr and Baden Soelingen, West Germany; Moose Jaw, Sk and Trenton, On). Then in 1985 Jim retired from the military and took up a position with the Public Service, working in Edmonton Alta and then Victoria where they have resided for the past 20 years.

During her years in Victoria Marian was very active in church life at St Michael and All Angels Anglican, in Royal Oak where she served on the Alter Guild, and was twice president of the Ladies Guild.

Marian was a devoted wife, loving mother, and wonderful homemaker. With Jim often away for the military she provided a loving and rich home life for the children. She was an excellent cook who also loved to knit and crochet, and found that she had a great talent in macramé, and paper tole. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed life in Victoria until her illness took away her ability to function on her own.

A Celebration of Marian’s life will be held at St. MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS CHURCH, 4733 West Saanich Rd., on Saturday, October 24th at 2.00 pm The Rev David Howells will officiate, with interment to take place in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Special thanks to Dr Oona Hayes, the care workers from Beacon Services, the staff at Beckley Farm Lodge, and the Palliative Care and Home Care nurses for their kindness and devotion. Also thanks to the congregation of St Michaels for their spiritual support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice, The Canadian Red Cross or the charity of your choice.
