Passed away peacefully in her daughter’s arms, in Victoria, BC on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the age of 95. Born in Park Ridge, Illinois, 1915. Predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Frederick in 1994 and her son, Richard in 2009. Mama was loved dearly for every moment spent with her devoted daughter, Barbara (Escondido, CA). She is lovingly remembered by her beloved twin grandsons, Paul and Richard (Encinitas, CA); sister, Mona (Ohio); niece, P.A. (ALA) and granddaughter, Elizabeth (FLA). Marie modeled part-time at Marshall Field’s in Chicago, received her RN from De Paul University, working private duty cases as well as at Cook County Hospital. In 1943, she married her sweetheart of seven years, Frederick, a U.S. Naval Officer, starting their family in 1946 with Richard, then Barbara, three years later. The epitome of style and grace, Marie was the consummate Naval Officer’s wife; an elegant and exceptional hostess, entertaining friends and family, welcoming all with an open heart and radiant smile. No matter the number of duty stations to which the family moved, Marie quickly and stylishly settled the family into their home. Forever positive in her outlook of life, Marie inspired others to do the same. She possessed strength of will and determination that others could only hope to emulate.

Marie’s ashes will be interred with her husband in Ft. Rosecrans Cemetery, San Diego, CA. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com

May eternal be her memory, may eternal be her peace.

As a paid companion I had two clients on Marie’s floor at James Bay Care Centre and always spent time chatting with Marie when I was there. It was an honour getting to know her and I shall miss her graceful presence. My deepest condolences on her passing.

    Dear Barbara,
Your Mom, with Glenys and I attended a Chinese cooking class many years ago. I have also had the privilege of being in her suite up at Spencer Castle for lunches, and will remember her with fond memories.

    Sincerely,
    Bertha P. Mar

    Dear Barbara and boys

Wishing you and the boys our warmest thoughts. Your mom was such a marvelous friend to my mom and dad. She always had that sun beam smile and lived her life with an uncommon grace. We have unfortunately had no contact with her since mom died in 2005. Our memories of her will always be of sunnier days and gracious entertaining in her beautiful apartment.

Margaret and I were very suprised to see that Jay has also left us. I’m sure this was very difficult for you and your mom. If we can be of any help to you in any way please let us know.

Our warm thoughts to you and the boys

    Dear Barbara and family,

I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing, but in many ways she is in a better place now. Scant comfort for your loss, because I know you really enjoyed your times together in recent years. I never knew your Mom and that was assuredly my loss. But I had the distinct pleasure of knowing what she was like through you and your boys. I know what a Navy wife’s responsibilities were, and they were almost always underestimated and under-appreciated by the general public, and sometimes even by their husbands and families. The remaining members of your Mom’s family tell volumes about her as a family leader in your Dad’s absences, caregiver, loving mother and grandmother and social manager. Even though I never met your Mom in person, I feel like I really understood all the qualities that were so eloquently outlined in her obituary.

Please accept my sincerest condolences for you, Paul and Richie for your loss – I know it is indeed a loss that only a son or daughter can really comprehend.

My best to you and your boys,

    Bruce
