It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on October 9, 2013. Clare was predeceased by her devoted husband, Frank; son, David and daughter, Eileen. She was also predeceased by brothers, Michael and Peter; sisters, Dorothy and Norah and sister-in-law, Alberta Songhurst. Clare will be lovingly remembered by her son, Peter (Maureen) Songhurst; her daughters, Margaret (Steve) Trottier, Maureen (Derek) James; grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, Michael, Cheryl , Daniel, Matthew, Joshua and Allison and great-grandchildren, William, Halle, Theron, Owen, Brian, Lucas, Lachlan, Camilla and Jackson. She will also be dearly missed by brother-in-law, Ed Hardy and many nieces and nephews. Clare was born in Victoria on April 30, 1923 and graduated from Victoria High School. She met her husband, Frank when he came to Victoria from Edmonton in 1943 to serve in the RCNVR. They married in 1945 and enjoyed 59 wonderful years together. Clare had a successful career working for the Provincial Government and for the City of Victoria for more than 25 years. Clare and Frank spent their retirement years travelling the world and time with family was her greatest joy. Although we will miss her smile, we are comforted that she is now reunited with our Dad.

The family extends their deepest thanks to the staff at Selkirk Place. Their compassion and excellent care was a great comfort to us all.

A celebration of Clare’s life will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Tuesday, October 15th at 11:00 am. A reception tea will follow in the McCall’s Family Centre with interment at Hatley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic at Vancouver General Hospital,
