Mary Griffiths (nee O’Gara) died on the 2nd of September 2025 in Victoria, British Columbia. Beloved wife of Guy, who predeceased her, Mother to Ann (husband Nigel), Catherine, who predeceased her (husband Garen) and son John. Mary was also a loving grandmother to Philip. Mary was born in Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon Ireland in 1924. She moved to London England in 1944 to teach English. In 1954 she emigrated to Canada. Although Mary became a Canadian citizen in 1967 and loved her new homeland, she remained a proud Irish woman. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. A voracious reader with a particular love of Irish poetry and a fondness for true crime novels Mary loved discussing politics and enjoyed a drink or three; her tipple – a good whiskey. Mary had a long and blessed life. You could say she had good innings. We will miss her very much. The family wishes to thank Christine Dion, Mary’s friend and longtime carer and Bev Frobeen for their kindness and support. We would also like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the Sunrise residential home.
