Maura was born in Blackwater, Country Kerry, Eire Feb 28, 1926, and passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC, on Sept 18, 2022, with family by her side.   Mom grew up on the family farm with her sisters.  Mom was a Kerry girl through and through.  She was caring, unselfish, intelligent, resourceful, strong, religious, encouraging and hard working.  When the opportunity arose in 1948 to come to Victoria as an au pair her adventurous spirit jumped at the opportunity.  Shortly after, she met Dad through mutual friends.  They were married Jan 7, 1950, at Lady of Assumption and were married for 61 years before Dad passed in 2011.  They began their married life working the family farm at Pease Lake and started a family.  After leaving the farm they made their home in Langford and then Saanich.  Maura and Alec spent many years motor homing throughout North America, trips to Hawaii and Europe and enjoyed many cruises.  They always had a boat and enjoyed fishing the local waters and taking the kids waterskiing at Elk and Shawnigan Lake.   Mom took great joy in cooking and knitting for her family, reading, playing cards and gardening (both vegetables and flowers).  After raising her family Mom worked at the Memorial Arena and then Glendale Lodge.

Maura is predeceased by her husband, Alec, father and mother, Michael and Ellen O’Sullivan, sisters, Nora, Sheila, Eileen and Kathleen.  She is survived by her 7 children:  Kathy, Brenda (Nick), Brendan (Denise), David (Jeanne), Paul (Ann), Glenn (Doreen) and Teresa (Ralph).  She had 16 grandchildren: Erin (Dereck), Neil (Amber), Jennifer (James), Janice (Colin), Brent (Morgan), Michelle (Nathan), Heather (Nathan), Nicholas (Cheryl), Kathryn (Paaras), Laura, Michael (Claire), Christopher (Carlee), Ian, Claire, Preston and Brooke.  Along with 27 great grandchildren:  Ried, (Caitlyn), Jordan (Kevin), Jasmine, Ethan, Jamison, Paige, Ayla, Jade, Georgia, Isabella, J.T. Owen, Ethan, Jillian, Wylie, Jackson, Zander, Kai, Quinn, Emmett, Alexander, Gabrielle, Noah, Blake, Lydia, Poppy and Liv, 5 great great grandchildren:  Bentley, Harper, Grayson, Lenyx and Finnigan and family in Ireland.   Family meant everything to Mom.

Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Brio Berwick Royal Oak and The Summit who gave Mom kind, compassionate and professional care during her last few years of her life.

The family extends an invitation to a funeral mass on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Sacred Heart Church, 4040 Nelthrope St, with internment to follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park.  Reception to follow at 2:30 pm at McCall Gardens’ Sequoia Centre, 4665 Falaise Drive.
