June 5, 1923 – March 18, 2013

Molly passed away peacefully in Victoria Hospice on March 18, 2013. A life well lived! Devoted wife for 65 years of the late John (Harry) Munster. Lovingly remembered by her children, Cynthia Hewitt, Barbara Lee (Raymond), Andy (Bonnie), John (Esther), predeceased by daughter Elizabeth Clark (Desmond). ‘Birdie’ to 9 grand children, Louise Higgins (Michael), Wendy McRae (Andrew), Michael Clark (Lindsay), David Hewitt, Aaron, Bryce (Jennifer), Andrew, Jessica and Andrea Munster. Cherished great-grand children, Tegan and Kaitlyn McRae, Trevor and Evan Clark. Predeceased by sisters Elizabeth (Betty), Patricia and brother Jack (Peggy). Aunt to Robert Colvil (Louise).

Molly was born in Pointe Claire, Quebec and grew up in Westmount. Molly met Harry, at The Hermitage Club on beautiful Lake Memphremagog – in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. They were married for 65 fabulous years and raised a wonderful family of five children. A park bench located just off Dallas Road, overlooking Fonyo Beach, (at the foot of Paddon Avenue) is dedicated to Molly and Harry’s wonderful 65 years together. Enjoy their view!

Molly and Harry (John) thoroughly enjoyed Victoria, residing at Somerset House. They made many new acquaintances and appreciated the company of life long friends. Sadly, Harry passed away in October of 2011, but Molly’s family and friends remained at her side. A special thank you is extended to her friends Joan, Elizabeth, Russ, Kathleen, Janine, Ruth, Connie, Scotty, and countless others.

Molly’s family would like to sincerely thank all the past and present staff of Somerset House who enhanced Molly’s life, especially Bernadette, Lisa, Stacey, Sherry, Tamilynn, Tatyana, Mary Ann, Sara, Mikki, Esther, Neil, Vlad and many, many more. Also, the fabulous dining room staff – Chef Bob, Marie, Michael, ‘Grand daughter Stephanie’, John, Tanya and especially Vicki. A very special thank you to Bernadette and Lisa for their dedication and support in Molly’s last days.

There are many caregivers who contributed to Molly’s well being and comfort, her family would like to thank Dr. Martin Lane, RaeAnn Brechner, and all the staff of the Royal Jubilee’s 8th floor South West. Also, all the Hospice nursing and medical staff: Caroline, Madeline, Michele, Tracey, Jamie and the wonderful volunteers.

Molly enjoyed a wonderful life. Her keen love of nature, creativity, fine cooking, travel, fun with her family and friends. She always exhibited class and dignity, attributes that are less common in this day and age. We will all miss her.

Molly will be inurned in MacPherson Cemetery, Georgeville, Quebec, this summer. Donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice, 4th floor, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8, tel: 250-519-1744. Condolences may be offered below.

Molly and Harry were like surrogate parents to me growing up in Sherbrooke. They were wonderful people, caring parents and always welcoming to their children’s friends. For me their home was a great place to be, filled with great energy and fun. I will always see Molly in my minds eye, doing handstands and cartwheels on the lawn in the summer and twirling around on figure skates on the skating rink Harry created every winter. And in her later years, focussing more on her arts and crafts. Her grandchildren were right on calling her Birdie as she really was a bird whisperer. Those tiny creatures, like many of us, knew where they were safe!
Molly will be missed by many. May she now be at peace.
    Jane
